Malanka: Traditions, Meanings, and the Living Experience of Celebration

This year, our residents decided to celebrate Malanka with a special spirit through creativity, live interaction, and the reimagining of ancient Ukrainian traditions. We gathered together not just to recall the rituals familiar since childhood, but to fill them with our own meanings, imagination, and the warmth of time spent together.

The main event of the evening was a grand workshop on creating New Year masks — an essential symbol of Malanka. Historically, masks have been a way of transformation, play, and freedom of self-expression.

Before the practical session, a short lecture dedicated to the traditions and origins of the Malanka holiday was held for our residents. We talked about where this ancient Ukrainian holiday originated, how it was formed, and what meanings it carries today.

Such moments are especially precious; they bring us closer, build trust, and help us feel that traditions can be alive and relevant even in the modern world.

We sincerely thank our partners who helped create this atmosphere and fill the event with true substance:

• koza.malanka

• diadia_official

It is thanks to such collaborations that tradition stops being a museum exhibit; it lives, changes, and continues to unite people.

Thank you to everyone who joined this event. We invite you to see how it went and to feel our Malanka just as we experienced it.
